Friends Aboard NB Tacet: Botany Bay Village On To Rishton

After a good nights rest we set off at 10.00 as we had an easy day ahead. We had a very nice cruise up to Botany Bay Village which is an old mill building converted in to 4 floors of various shops. We had a pleasant afternoon looking around the shops before moving on to moor at the bottom of Johnson's Hill Lock's.

Johnson's Lock Lock

Sunday we set off up Johnson's Hill Locks which were very busy. We made slow but steady progress up the locks and at the top we filled with water and empted the necessary before moving on to Riley Green as there is a pub there and we both fancied a drink. After our evening meal we went for a couple of beers at the pub and sat out side looking over the canal a lovely evening was had by us both.

Monday we set off knowing we had to go through Blackburn which has a vary bad reputation for trouble at the locks so the plan was to get through early morning. I have to say Blackburn is the worst part of the canal system we have been through full of rubbish and just very untidy.We did not have any trouble at any of the locks but there were some unsavoury lads around so we were very pleased to be going up the locks with The Great Escape with Gerry and Honour on-board.
We were both glad to be out of Blackburn and had a nice cruise up to just past Rishton were are are moored with some lovely scenery to look at.

Very Odd Little Craft

Tuesday we woke to high winds and the prospect of rain but we set off early as we were going through Burnley which also has a bit of a bad reputation. However we had a lovely cruise through Burnley.

We cruised along the Burnley Mile which runs along at the same hight as the roof's of the house's.
